Milstein has been a favorite violinist of mine since I can remember. His recording of the Bach Chaconne is one of the greatest masterpeices I have ever heard. This recording has not been heard that much I think so enjoy!

I know how difficult and scary this piece can be. What ever comments you get on you tube by people who think they know and are allowed to say everything… just let it go. Believe in the beauty of this piece and there many beauties for this particular piece.
thank you OME10S.
MsWackyWoman,
good luck with your audition in the spring.
I hope all goes well.

Listen…not with your ears , nor your left brain…then everything will be shined with this Diamond !
Hi lonebeagle,
The last part of my “critique” was really directed at MsWackyWoman who promises to play it at an audition.
NOT A GOOD IDEA…..unless he/she has something fresh to bring to it, ie.
I didn’t mean to imply that Mr Milstein was/is(?) prone to those “idiosyncrasies (personal ?) indicated.
One of the best performances I’ve heard of this piece. Beautiful.
And you are…? Oh, I forgot you’re a nobody. Milstein isn’t a nobody.
Idiot.
Guess you pays your money and you takes your choice; imho this is a superficial rendering, rather dry and some ill-advised portamento; ie up to when I just left off – about one-third the way through. Would I be right in thinking this is difficult to bring off because it’s not great music. Succumb to its many traps – emotional with stacks of dragging from one note to another – and you invite “ridicule” [ for want of a better word ] – definitely NOT an audition piece.
Try Elman/Mutter version.
I shouldn’t if I were you; it’s hackneyed to death !!!
I’m using this piece for an audition in the spring!
Absolutely beautiful.
My hartiest compliments !
De los mejores de tooodos los tiempos!
As my mother always said, “make every note sing as if it were a composition unto itself”. He does and she revered his playing.
….a great musical storyteller…
Solid…Sincere…All heart…Worth-living !
amazing.
the string is a gut, I used gut and play this and its almost the same sound, try kaplan golder spiral
that part is an option….
Noble, noble reading!
oh my gosh he had me in tears.
Milstein was just so great at playing these slow melodies. Just the right amount of rubato.
i am agree with cheesse, the piece isn“t complete
I love violin music! This is beautiful.
