It’s some what useful keeping your mind clear and calm so when you’re working out you don’t feel as pressured and angry.

Helps afterwards too.
In order for the chi to flow, the mind must be calm and the body must be relaxed.
You might want to look into developing a meditation practice to use while you are working out. If you are particularly concerned about tolerating pain during workouts, mindfulness meditation may be a good fit.
