I am currently enrolled in a training and certification program, and thought I’d ask some opinions. What do you like/dislike about teachers? In a general, eclectic session, do you place importance more on meditation/breathing or fitness? What are some bad habits you have seen before, and what did the best yoga teacher you ever had do that was so special?

I am taking a beginner’s yoga class at my college and I am finding it nearly impossible to get myself into a shoulder stand. I’ve been trying to practice at home to no avail. I’m a little more out of shape than I initially thought, because apparently I’m completely lacking core and upper body strength. Any suggestions to help me get into a shoulder stand without killing myself?

How effective is Yoga in improving your sports? I’ve tried a little. From what I’ve done, it seems to train balance, muscle focus and concentration.

I am considering making a career shift from the corporate world to become a yoga instructor, and I would just like personal stories from people who have done the same. I know that it will take a lot of hard work and dedication, but I feel that I’m up for the challenge! Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Yesterday was my first day back to the gym in a few months, and my arms, chest, shoulders, and thighs are pretty sore. I was thinking of taking a yoga class tonight, however, I’ve been reading that you should not work sore muscles. Would Yoga be considered inappropriate even though it mostly consists of stretching?

I heard many doctors feel that the practice of meditation is good for a persons health. But the only thing I heard is that it relaxes the body so that the natural defences have a better opportunity to fend off viruses.

I just started yoga 3 days ago and I realize I am not very flexible and my arms are still not strong enough to support some positions that require all the weight of the body to go in the arms…I was wondering if with time it will improve and my body will become more flexible and therefore be able to do some of the hardest positions? How long does it take approximately if I practice every day for two hours….For how long should one practice in a day?
